Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl

There are few animated franchises that mean as much to me as Wallace & Gromit. Ever since I was three, I’ve been positively enraptured by the misadventures of a middle-aged inventor and his stalwart dog. Nearly 20 years after their last feature-length film, they’re back to prove that time hasn’t robbed them of their appeal.

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is a cracking return to form for the iconic duo. When Wallace’s latest invention is unknowingly tampered with by an old enemy, Gromit must clear his master’s name before it’s too late. Returning over 30 years after his debut, the infamous Feathers McGraw remains as unsettling and threatening as ever while encapsulating the trademark ludicrousness of Wallace & Gromit. Speaking of the titular duo, Wallace is stil as bumbling and well-meaning as ever, and while his new voice actor, Ben Whitehead, is occasionally noticeable, he nevertheless gives a performance worthy of the late Peter Sallis. Meanwhile, Gromit continues to prove why he’s, in my opinion, one of the greatest protagonists in animation history through his determination, loyalty, and range of expressiveness. Joining the cast is Norbot (Reece Shearsmith), a smart gnome with questionable programming and ample comedic beats. On that note, the comedy, action, heart, and occasional nostalgia will please longtime fans while leaving room to win over the newcomers. Finally, for a movie that serves as a cautionary tale to over-reliance on technology, no style of animation is better equipped to sell that message than the meticulous, eye-catching stop-motion animation Aardman is revered for.

It could be the nostalgia bias talking, but Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is an absolute must-watch. If you’ve got Netflix and 79 minutes to spare, give it a watch. You won’t regret it.
